expertise
I am able to deliver sessions in a wide variety of artforms and can tailor them to suit the needs of the class. Whether you're looking to try something for the first time in a one-off session or deep dive on a topic across several weeks, we can co-design your sessions together.
excitement
My classes are designed to challenge participants and to reinforce learning through fun creative exercises. Each session is varied, we work through things in stages, and everyone leaves with a sense of achievement.

testimonials
As well as running creative sessions, I talk about a range of topics relating to contemporary and medieval art, art history, cultural history and early medieval British history. I can also research and develop bespoke talks for your community. Great for U3A groups, community groups, college and university classes and more.
Examples of topics include:
- On my experience of recreating St Mary's Church Woodham Doom painting
- Anglo-Saxon place names
- local histories and their wider context (e.g. Basildon and The Peasants Revolt)
- Anglo-Saxon Runes and Irish Ogham
- On working as a freelance artist
- On using art as a tool in historical education
"Steve is a significant artist with an important practice, and an artist facilitator of the highest calibre"
- Sam Miller, Artistic Director of Green Shoes Arts
"Sara and Steve combined historical knowledge with hands on skill and expertise. A brilliantly organised course!"
- Participant at the London International Palaeography Summer School 2025
