original art
I make art in a variety of mediums, including pencil, paint, ink, collage, digital, and medieval-recipe pigments.
My work is an extension of the early medieval tradition known today as "Celtic" or "Insular" art, using knotwork, key patterns, spirals, zoomorphic figures, etc. I take these traditional patterns and their original context, and bring them into the 21st century using modern points of reference.
I've exhibited throughout London and the South East of England, and originals and prints of my work have been sold in many countries, including America, Italy, and Australia. Visit my shop page to see more original work, prints and accessories.
RUNIC RAP
Runic Rap places UK Hip Hop artists in their proper context: they are the bards, skalds, court jesters of our time. This series has started by immortalising some of my favourite artists on runestones, and is constantly expanding. New additions are added here. Below is the originals, but prints are available at the Merch page.
runic rap
This body of work depicts contemporary UK Hip Hop artists on Runestones in the Anglo-Scandinavian style found during the Viking Age. Runic Rap is my attempt to position these artists as the torch-holders of the poetic/bardic tradition that has existed in Britain and Ireland for millennia. Rappers are the social commentators, jesters, and poets of the modern age, speaking over drum beats as the bards and scops did in ancient times. They are presented alongside a small portion of their lyrics, written in Anglo-Saxon Runes, further solidifying their claims to Brtain's ancient heritage.
fibonacci celtica
Fibonacci Celtica takes the Celtic artforms and plays with the mathematical principles behind them; taking inspiration from the Golden Ratio and the Fibonacci sequence, I have created these pieces which bring together two forms of expression which are concerned with infinity into one. These are all experiments in the way that a grid-based system can be used to manipulate knotwork bands and key patterns.
CELTIC COLLECTION
Here are my new works in the ancient style. Knotwork, or interlace, became the decorative artform par excellence during the Roman Empire, and reached its height of complexity and beauty in Britain during the Early Middle Ages, culminating with the carpet pages of the Linidsfarne Gospels, the Book of Kells and more. I am revivifying the artform and associated maze, spiral and key-patterns to create new works inspired by these forerunners of British art history.
pencil drawings
I use pencil to create lucid, psychedelic renderings of ideas which merge the visionary, material and subconscious into into landscapes and patterns.
