writing

poetry

I've been writing rhymes and poetry for a long time. My words give me the space to express more directly my thoughts and ideas, and are perhaps more grounded in reality than my visual art - although symbolism weaves through my words in a similar way.

I have performed throughout much of the South of England and competed in multiple slams. In 2019 I was a finalist at the Margate Bookie Slam, and was the featured artist at the Southend Poetry Slam.

 commissions

I have received several commissions to write pieces for community arts projects, including Grays+Me (2019) and the Thurrock Lockdown Time Capsule Project (2020).

For this project, I worked with residents of Thurrock to help them reminisce on and write about their experience of the first national lockdown, March-May 2020.

grays+me (ecdp)

I was commissioned to write a Spoken Word Map of Grays, detailing some of the key places and people of the area whilst giving a feel of the sense of community there.

 non-fiction

I love writing about history, heritage and social issues. I have written for several heritage projects, and my social housing crisis critique 'Social Housing and Mobility in 2017: the Gascoigne Estate' was awarded a 2nd place in the inaugural Koreo Prize.

Click the buttons below to see some of my non-fiction writing, ranging from the history of the world's first voluntary hospital to the social housing crises.
