My work is a modern interpretation and extension of the early medieval tradition known today as "Celtic" or "Insular" art. I take these traditional patterns and their original context, and bring them into the 21st century, blending ancient materials and concepts with modern ones.

runic rap
This body of work depicts contemporary UK Hip Hop artists on Runestones in the Anglo-Scandinavian style found during the Viking Age. Runic Rap is my attempt to position these artists as the torch-holders of the poetic/bardic tradition that has existed in Britain and Ireland for millennia. Rappers are the social commentators, jesters, and poets of the modern age, speaking over drum beats as the bards and scops did in ancient times. They are presented alongside a small portion of their lyrics, written in Anglo-Saxon Runes, further solidifying their claims to Brtain's ancient heritage.
