Plant Consciousness - 2018 Original Drawning

Some anthropologists and biologists are starting to make startling claims about the communicative abilities of plants. We know now that trees use mycileal networks underground to share nutrients, and even favour their close relatives to other trees; they also 'take care' not to get in each other's way of the sun.

Jeremy Narby, an anthropologist who spent time with the Jivaro Shamans of the Amazon jungle, decided to take the claims of these people that "the plants tell them things" seriously, as they were able to identify and use hundreds of different plant species to make medicines and foods, in ways that make no sense under our current paradigms of understanding.

This piece is a meditation on a Mexican Hat plant I once owned, and what it's spirit might be like.
